The sand floor method-chicken coop might sound a little strange if you're used to using wood chips or straw. however, switching to sand could be the best decision you. The entire chicken coop structure is wrapped in 1/2″ galvanized hardware cloth buried under about 4-6 inches of soil. the litter sits atop that.. The material that covers the floor of a chicken coop is commonly referred to as “bedding,” which is more aptly termed “litter,” as chickens don’t sleep on.
